    Elder Care

    Why:

Seniors often live far from family and can become isolated; many need help with home projects, shopping, or just someone to sit and visit with them.

    In San Diego:

The county’s social services system has a list of 22,000 seniors in need of assistance. Recent funding cuts mean that for seniors who formerly received a visit each quarter, the government can now only provide one visit each year.

    Local Volunteers Will:

Adopt seniors who live in their neighborhoods. The Faith in Action Xtreme Elder Care team is compiling a list of names and addresses, with the goal of helping each person within the social services system. Projects will run the gamut from home repair, gardening, shopping and visiting. The key is recognizing needs of individuals and working as a church to meet those needs.

    Volunteers Will:

Assist local churches in projects for individual seniors, and help with initiatives surrounding senior/community centers. Opportunities could include: classes for seniors, special events, and larger-scale repair projects.
