    Foster Care

    Why:

Foster families face struggles that range from feeling over-extended to raising children who need special care and attention. Some families may face isolation simply because their situation is different from their friends and neighbors.

    In San Diego:

7,000 children are in San Diego’s foster care system; each will wait an average of 3 years to be placed in a home. A baby under 12 months will live in an average of three different locations within his or her first year of foster care. There are 97 foster care group homes in San Diego County.

    Local Volunteers Will:

Adopt foster care families and group facilities in their neighborhoods, providing special events for foster children, “respite care” for parents (basically, giving them a day or night off), and home repair.

    Volunteers Will:

Assist local churches in their outreach to foster children and families, including helping with special events, building relationships, and home repair.
